I believe the inherent beauty of fine furniture lies in the wood itself: its grain, texture, and color. So, to begin with, selection of the proper wood for each piece is of the utmost importance. I use only the finest hardwoods such as walnut, cherry, mahogany, and figured maples etc... In conjunction with the use of traditional joinery and finishing techniques, I create pieces that can be used and enjoyed today, and passed along to our children as tomorrow's heirlooms.
Once a piece has been constructed, a finish must be applied. Ultimately, it is through the finish that the long lasting beauty and patina of a special piece are ensured. I use a variety of finishing techniques. First, I use only water-based stains that I make from walnut husk extract and earth extracts such as siennas, ocres, and umbers. I also make a range of different colored shellacs and use a variety of colored waxes depending on the desired overall effect. Finally, I offer French polishing for those customers interested in a high sheen, and rubbed out lacquer finishes for table surfaces destined for frequent and heavy use.
The furniture I make covers a wide range of styles. Whether contemporary or traditional, I can furnish a room that reflects each customer's personal style and needs, combining both function and aesthetics.
